Day 1 Little Current, ON

We begin our circle of Georgian Bay by travelling through the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory. Here we board the Chi Cheemaun for a 2-hour cruise across the narrows between Georgian Bay and Lake Huron, one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse environments in Canada. We disembark on Manitoulin Island, the largest freshwater Island in the world. A spectacular view awaits on a stop at 10-mile point before continuing to Little Current for our two-night stay. Dinner is included. (D)

Day 2 Little Current, ON

Breakfast is included this morning. Why not enjoy that second cup of coffee on the deck overlooking the North Channel, or take a stroll on the boardwalk along the waterfront? Mid-morning, we explore Manitoulin. See Bridal Veil Falls in Kagawong and of course we can’t miss out on the Chocolate Shop! In M’Chigeeng you’ll find one of a kind handmade Quill Boxes at Lillians Native Crafts, and then to the inspirational Immaculate Conception Church. Lunch will be included along the way. (B,L)

Day 3 Sudbury, ON

After breakfast, we cross the historic swing bridge, the only land access to Manitoulin Island. We travel through The La Cloche Mountains, a range of 3.5-billion-year quartzite rock. At their peak, the La Cloche mountain range once stood 11 kilometers tall making them the tallest mountain range in the world but after billions of years of erosion, what you see is an area of smooth quartzite ridges that now make up some of the tallest mountains in Ontario. Scattered throughout these mountains are boulders which were used as “warning bells” by the local natives when struck. For this reason, the range was coined “Bell Mountains”, in French – “Lacloche” by the French Voyageurs. On arrival in Sudbury, we stop at the famous Big Nickel before making our way to Science North. The structure is designed to represent two snowflake-shaped buildings connected by a rock tunnel which passes through a billion-year-old geologic fault. Exhibits allow you to identify the frogs and birds that inhabit Ontario’s wetlands; enter the darkened environment of the nocturnal room for a glimpse of nocturnal animals; take a closer look at a living honey bee colony; inside a beaver hut and some billion-year-old fossils!! We overnight in Sudbury, with dinner included. (B,D)

Day 4 Home
