Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Flight to Edmonton, AB

From your joining point today, you will be taken to Pearson International Airport where we will join our flight to Edmonton. Upon arrival in Edmonton we gather our belongings and board our motor coach. From here we continue to our Whitecourt Hotel and our Welcome Dinner. (D)

Day 2 High Level, AB

Northwest from Whitecourt today, we travel through scenic Peace River country, and Grimshaw, which marks Mile Zero on the MacKenzie Highway, as we make our way to High Level, Alberta for overnight. A visit is included today at Battle River Pioneer Museum. (B)

Day 3 High Level, AB

Day trip to LaCrete and a visit to the Mennonite Heritage Museum. Then back to High Level for a tour of Mackenzie Crossroads Museum, a tribute to the Hudson’s Bay Company outposts. (B)

Day 4 Fort Smith, NWT

Today we cross the 60th Parallel, and enjoy a picnic lunch along the MacKenzie Highway. Known as the “Waterfalls” Route, we will make picture stops at Alexandra Falls and Louise Falls. Tonight, we are in Fort Smith. (B,L)

Day 5 Hay River, NWT

A visit this morning to the Northern Life Museum. Then we are off to Wood Buffalo National Park, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. A Parks Canada Guide will join us from Fort Smith to travel with us to Fire Tower as we see the karst sinkholes at the Angus Fire Tower, Wood Buffalo Interpretive Centre, Salt Plains and herds of bison. With 230 species of birds in the park, including the Whooping Crane, binoculars are a must. Tonight, we are in Hay River on the shores of Great Slave Lake where a local Dene artisan will demonstrate some unique crafts such as Moose Hair Tufting or Porcupine Quill Art. (B)

Day 6 Yellowknife, NWT

Departing Hay River, stopping at the Hay River Visitor Centre before continuing to Lady Evelyn Falls and the small Slavey community of Kakisa. Traveling through the MacKenzie Bison Sanctuary and from there travel by Rae-Edzo, the largest Dene community in the Northwest Territories to our overnight stay in Yellowknife. (B)

Day 7 Yellowknife, NWT

Watch for an abundance of birdlife this morning as you tour on Great Slave Lake. It is not uncommon to view Eagles, Arctic Terns and Osprey. This afternoon, a visit to the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. (B)

Day 8 Inuvik, NWT

Today a flight from Yellowknife across the vast northern landscape takes you to Inuvik for a two-night stay. Lunch included before this afternoon a town tour will demonstrate the unique experience of living at latitude 68 degrees North. Overnight in Inuvik. (B,L)

Day 9 Tuktoyaktuk, NWT

A morning flight to Tuktoyaktuk, located about 80 miles north of Inuvik. You will experience local Inuvaluit culture, unique churches and craft shopping. Try to attain your “Arctic Ocean Toe Dipping Certificate”. In the afternoon return to Inuvik for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

Day 10 Yellowknife, NWT

Return to Yellowknife today. A visit to Buffalo Airways is also included this afternoon.

Day 11 Yellowknife, NWT

Begin your day in Yellowknife with a Guided City tour that will introduce you to the city built on dreams, perseverance and ingenuity. Balance of day is free. Tonight, a final evening Dinner as a group. (B,D)

Day 12 Flight Home

Today our great northern adventure comes to an end, as the motor coach shuttles us to the Yellowknife airport for our included flight to Toronto, connecting in Edmonton or Calgary. (B)
