Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Flight from Toronto to Edmonton, AB

We arrive today in Alberta’s capital city, Edmonton. This evening, meet your tour director and travelling companions at a welcome dinner. (D)

Day 2 Fort St. John, BC

This morning we travel west across Alberta’s foothill country travelling through Whitecourt, Valleyview and Grand Prairie to Dawson Creek, BC at mile zero of the Alaska Highway. Be sure to get your photo taken at the Mile Zero sign post to mark the beginning of your great adventure. (B)

Day 3 Muncho Lake, BC

We gradually leave southern civilization behind as we travel along the highway through Fort St. John and Fort Nelson to Muncho Lake. The Alaska Highway was a monumental project started during the height of World War ll fearing impending attack. Thus in 1942 construction crews worked simultaneously on several sections between Dawson Creek and Fairbanks, joining up with one another to finally complete the project in only 9 months. Our journey continues north through the mountainous region by Muncho Lake Provincial Park. Dinner included tonight. (B,D)

Day 4 Whitehorse, YK

This morning there will be time for a dip in the naturally heated waters of Laird Hot Springs before continuing to Watson Lake, an important part of the Alaska Highway. Just north of here was where the construction crews from the last northern section met the crews from the last southern section to complete the legs of the highway. Another of Watson Lake’s claim to fame is the unique Signpost Forest. Bring a sign from your home town if you like and add it to the “forest”! We continue to Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon Territory, situated on the mighty Yukon River where Sternwheelers once plied the route to the gold creeks and fields of Dawson City. (B)

Day 5 Whitehorse, YK

A rail tour is on the agenda today with a visit to Skagway, Alaska. You’ll take the fabulous White Pass and Yukon Rail as part of the excursion passing over canyons, past waterfalls and through the mountains to Lynn Canal on the Alaska Inside passage route. This evening is free to enjoy Whitehorse. (B)

Day 6 Dawson City, YK

Following the same basic route as the old prospectors of the Klondike Goldrush you will drive to Dawson City for the next two nights. Dawson City is a national historic treasure. The old buildings have been preserved from the goldrush period at the turn of the 20th century, making you feel like you’ve travelled back to those colorful times. (B)

Day 7 Gold Panning

Today you will take a Gold Panning tour and learn about the history of the goldrush, the original gold panning techniques as well as more large scale methods of prizing the shiny metal. The afternoon can be enjoyed on your own. Tonight, Diamond Tooth Gertie is your emcee for the can-can show display of top notch Klondike themed song and dance. (B)

Day 8 Fairbanks, AK

The drive to Fairbanks takes you to the Top of the World and back. This highway gives you a sense of the vastness of the land. Travelling through unique little settlements like Chicken and Tok your day finishes at the northern terminus of the Alaska Highway at Fairbanks. (B)

Day 9 Fairbanks, AK

Sternwheelers once serviced the gold seekers in Dawson by navigating the Yukon River all the way through Alaska from the Bering Sea. Today, relive some of that experience on the Riverboat Discovery Cruise. A stop at a wonderful interpretive site offers a glimpse into Alaska of old as well as a chance to see a dog sled demonstration. Today will also include a short city tour of Fairbanks and later we visit Alaskaland for a delicious barbecue buffet dinner and Vaudeville Show. (B,D)

Day 10 Anchorage, AK

Today you will pass Denali National Park and Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain on the continent (renamed Mt. Denali in 2015). Later we arrive in Anchorage, the largest city north of the 60th parallel. A completely modern looking city it offers the best shopping and dining opportunities of the tour. We spend two nights here. (B)

Day 11 Anchorage, AK

A short city tour will acquaint you with the highlights of Anchorage. This afternoon is free for you to explore Anchorage on your own. (B)

Day 12 Valdez, AK

From Anchorage we wind our way through the mountains as we make our way to Valdez for a wonderful two night stay! Due to its picturesque mountain setting, Valdez has often been compared to Switzerland. Dinner is included this evening, featuring gorgeous mountain views all around us. (B,D)

Day 13 Valdez, AK

A relaxing morning as we first visit the Valdez Museum that depicts the cultural development of this remote community. Later in the morning we board the famous Stan Stephens Boat Cruise for an all day cruise where you first cross a portion of beautiful Prince William Sound on your way to view the Columbia Glacier up close! This is a unique experience of history as the glacier is retreating into the mountains! (B)

Day 14 Tok, AK

A very scenic drive today as we depart Valdez by motor coach and make our way through the Chugach and Wrangell Mountains. There will be picture stops. We make our way to Tok by late afternoon. (B)

Day 15 Whitehorse, YK

Once again we will be travelling the Alaska Highway on our way to Whitehorse.
