Day 1 St. John’s, Newfoundland

Join our group today at Pearson International Airport. Our flight eastward will take us to Newfoundland. Here our Tour Director will welcome the group to Newfoundland. A short ride aboard the motor coach will take us to our downtown St. John’s Hotel. Tonight, you will enjoy an included dinner. (D)

Day 2 St. John's, Newfoundland

This morning we include a Boat Cruise to the Bird Island Sanctuary where Newfoundland’s official bird the Puffin nests in the protective shelter of the cliffs. During the cruise, we often see Whales and Icebergs! Later we visit Cape Spear, North America’s most easterly point. In the afternoon, you will be taken on a guided tour of historic St. John's, one of the oldest communities in North America. We will visit Signal Hill, view the "narrows", admire the architecture of old St. John's, visit the Basilica and the Anglican Cathedral -- the oldest Anglican parish in North America dating back to 1699. Tonight, for those who wish, a visit to The Rooms. This museum tells the stories of Newfoundland and Labrador and its diverse peoples. (B)

Day 3 Conception Bay/ Port Union, NF

Today we leave the Avalon Peninsula, travel through Clarenville, and journey onto the Bonavista Peninsula. The drive is referred to as the “Discovery Trail” and the sightseeing is amazing. We include admission to the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse and tour the Ryan’s Premises, a National Historic Site. In June & early July this will also be a great spot to view Icebergs! Tonight, we overnight in Port Union. Dinner included this evening. (B,D)

Day 4 Terra Nova Park/Gander, NF

We will visit Trinity this morning to stroll through the quiet lanes of the peaceful, historic and most picturesque village. We will also board a boat for a guided tour of a real working Mussel Farm, and learn about the growing industry of Aquaculture. Then in the afternoon we will visit Terra Nova National Park enroute to overnight accommodation in Gander, the Crossroads of the World. (B,L)

Day 5 Twillingate/Grand Falls, NF

Today we'll travel to the coast, where true Newfoundland lifestyle and culture are found in the many fishing villages along our route. Lunch is included today, along with a local theatre that will provide some insight into Newfoundland’s history. Then on to the "Road to the Isles" to visit a fishing family, passing by such places as "Virgin Arm", "Herring Neck", and on to Twillingate. At the Prime Berth Fishing Centre you will learn all about Newfoundland Fishing of yesterday and today. This afternoon, a stop at Boyds Cove and a visit to the Beothuk Interpretation Centre. Continue on to overnight in Grand Falls. (B,L)

Day 6 Corner Brook, Newfoundland

This morning we visit the Salmon Interpretation Centre and learn about the life-cycle of this very popular fish. Then we travel to Corner Brook, Newfoundland’s most westerly city. Corner Brook is Newfoundland's second largest city and is the site of the island’s first industrial sawmills and one of the world's largest pulp and paper mills. Today we include admission to the Newfoundland Insectarium, a world class facility offering the opportunity to view insects and arthropods from around the world. Tonight, our accommodations are in Corner Brook, along with Dinner together as a group. Tonight, you will become a member of the Royal Order of Screechers! (B,D)

Day 7 St. Anthony, Newfoundland

Today we will travel up the Viking Trail stopping along the way to view the Arches, a natural phenomenon carved over many centuries by the sea. We will visit the National Historic Park at Port Au Choix and the museum which features the Maritime Archaic Indian History. The many interesting artifacts on display make this an intriguing site. Our journey will take us along the coastline to overnight in St. Anthony for the next two nights. (B, L)

Day 8 St. Anthony, Newfoundland

This morning we will visit Sir Wilfred Grenfell's former home as well as the Grenfell Mission and the Hospital named after him. In the afternoon, we will visit the first European settlement in North America, L'Anse aux Meadows, the site of the Viking Village where Leif the Lucky is believed to have settled in the year 1000 AD. Across the road we also visit Norstead, where actors bring to life a working Viking Village. Dinner included this evening, with a local musician playing traditional Newfoundland music. (B, L, D)

Day 9 L’Anse Au Clair, Labrador

Up this morning to catch the ferry, across the Straits of Belle Isle to Southern Labrador. Tonight, we will spend in Labrador at L'Anse Au Clair. (B,D)

Day 10 Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland

Today we will visit the Basque Whaling station recently discovered by archaeologists and named as a heritage site for Canada. Here we will tour the site and learn about the way of life and the “11 modern techniques" used by the whalers of those long-ago times. Have your picture taken at the Point Amour Lighthouse. Lunch included before we take the ferry back to the Island of Newfoundland and travel along the spectacular coastline to Gros Morne National Park. We arrive early evening to Rocky Harbour for the next 2 nights. (B,L)

Day 11 Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland

Today we take in the spectacular scenery of Gros Morne National Park. This morning we enjoy a 2-hour cruise from Norris Point to view Gros Morne from the water. Next, a visit to Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse before we make a stop at the Gors Morne Interpretation Centre for their fascinating film about the Park. Our visit to Gros Morne National Park will give you the opportunity to view deep fjords, vertical cliffs, the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Long-Range Mountains. Return to hotel with time to freshen up before we have a home-cooked Farewell Dinner in Rocky Harbour. (B,D)

Day 12 Home

After Breakfast we visit the Gros Morne Wildlife Museum before our Viking Adventure comes to an end, and our shuttle takes us to the Deer Lake Airport, to board our return flights home. (B)
